F.A.Q.
What's a tone and why do I want it?Tones are what make certain songs and guitarists identifiable. You know Jimi Hendrix's guitar when you hear it, right? That tone played a huge part in his signature sound. GuitarPort Online features amazing, downloadable guitar tones inspired by the greatest guitarists and guitar songs of all time. Professionally dialed in by artists and rock-star sound designers, tones can be downloaded individually or paired with the tracks that they helped make famous. Check out the screenshots page to see how you can interact with downloaded tones to dial in the perfect sound.
How often do you add new tracks, tabs, lessons, videos and tones to GuitarPort Online?Every week you'll find more songs with tabs, tones and lessons to expand your playing and keep you motivated.
How do I access archived tracks, lessons and tabs?GuitarPort Online offers members unlimited access to its archives providing thousands of song variations (with and without guitar, bass and drum parts) and lessons including blues, metal, classic rock, punk, jazz, country, pop, and more. Just use the Search feature to find what you like.
How do the tracks sound?Truly amazing. In fact, The Hendrix tracks are remixes of the original songs! We also feature equally inspiring recreations of classic recordings (like Jimi Hendrix songs re-recorded with original Band of Gypsies members Billy Cox and Buddy Miles, and produced by Electric Ladyland producer Eddie Kramer. And Stevie Ray Vaughan songs re-recorded with Double Trouble)! Plus, we have top musicians like Steve Vai, Carmine Appice, Simon Philips, Rudy Sarzo, Robben Ford and many, many more re-recording other classics in top studios around the world.
Can I hear some sample tracks?Of course. Just click the "preview" link next to any song variation in the archive to hear a 30-second sample.
How do I download and play full tracks and see the tabs and lessons? You need to download the free GearBox® player software and hook up your compatible Line 6 guitar USB Interface, because the tracks, tabs, and lessons need to interact with your guitar signal to provide the correct tones while you play. Don't worry, if you already own a compatible Line 6 interface, just sign up for a free trial to access all this exclusive content and functionality. Please see Getting Started.
How do I automatically load the guitar tones? You will need to hook your guitar to a compatible USB device from Line 6 (we can provide one if you need it). Please see Getting Started for details.
Do I always need to be connected to the Internet to access GuitarPort Online? No. You need to connect initially to download copies of the tracks, lessons and tones but, once downloaded, you're good to go whether you are connected or not (as long as you are a member of GuitarPort Online).
What kind of software is required?GuitarPort software has been replaced by Line 6 GearBox® which is the free player used for GuitarPort Online tracks, tabs, and some exclusive lessons. Please see Getting Started.
